Lawn Aeration

It is recommended to aerate a lawn at least once every other year, preferably in the spring or fall, when the grass is actively growing. Mechanical aeration, also known as core aeration, is beneficial for a grass lawn because it helps to improve soil structure, reduce soil compaction, and promote root growth. Soil compaction occurs when the soil particles become tightly packed together, which reduces the amount of space available for air, water, and nutrients to move freely through the soil. This can cause problems for grass because it makes it difficult for the roots to grow and access the nutrients they need.

Aeration involves removing small plugs of soil from the lawn using a specialized machine called an aerator. This creates channels in the soil, which allows air, water, and nutrients to penetrate deeper into the soil and reach the grass roots. As a result, the grass roots are able to grow more deeply and spread out, which makes the lawn healthier and more resistant to drought, disease, and other stresses.

In addition to improving soil structure and reducing soil compaction, mechanical aeration can also be beneficial for seeding. When the plugs of soil are removed from the lawn, they create small holes that provide an ideal environment for new grass seed to germinate and grow. The holes also help to protect the seed from being washed away by rain or blown away by wind, which increases the chances of successful germination.

Due to the average aeration depth of 3" it is asked of the client to mark any objects in the lawn to prevent damage. Things that may require marking are: irrigation(sprinkler) heads - especially mid lawn, electric dog fence, shallow installed cable line, shallow installed irrigation line. Things commonly used for marking are wire lawn flags or even plastic forks and knives. Care is taken to avoid obstacles, however Noble Control is not responsible for damage to unmarked objects so please take the time to consider this.
