Lawn Care Tips

  • Mow length is just as important as anything else. When grass is cut too much at once it looses the top canopy that gives the desired green color. Normally not cutting more than 1/3 to 1/2 at once is ideal.

When you keep grass length close to 3.5 to 4 inches it can grow longer roots, shade the soil, retain more water and help prevent weeds. Most important during the hot summer months.

  • Not every lawn requires a watering schedule. However depending on the grass types, location and expectations for the lawn, a watering schedule may be needed.

  • Timing grass seed is important as many things can conflict.

Pre-emergent, normally applied in the spring, can prevent seed growth so its best to time before this or many weeks after.

Also mid summer heat can demand much more watering to be done which is why spring and fall is the preferred time for seeding services.

  • Heat tracking is a term used when grass is slightly dehydrated and stressed by high temperatures.

Pressure from lawn mowers, foot traffic or other equipment may crush the leaf cell and cause the blade to turn tan or bleached.

The roots and crowns of the grass remain alive and should allow the lawn to recover with time and proper care.

When timing mowing and other activities on the lawn, temperature and lawn condition should be considered.
